What does a local search review include?

Local Search reviews need to look outside of the “standard” results, and focus primarily on the map pack feature as well as performance against specific location-based queries in the main results page.

There are two core areas you need to be visible for when it comes to local search:

  1. Map packs
  2. Localised Search results

While Google Business Profiles and Bing Places listings are crucial for physical businesses, they may not be suitable for a purely online business so you need to be able to determine how other websites in the space are succeeding currently and then how you can maximise your existing performance – or even break into the space yourself.

Local SEO reviews can focus on multiple areas, but will generally include analysis across:

  1. Map listings – e.g. Google & Bing settings, performance, user interactions, queries, features utilised
  2. Reviews – e.g. on-site and as part of the map listings, are they specific to locations or broader service?
  3. NAP consistency – e.g. on-site vs. map listings vs. external websites
  4. Local queries – e.g. specific locations / proximal keywords
  5. On-site content – e.g. references to locations throughout the site

Interested in a local search review project?

Local SEO reviews can be completed as either standalone strategic projects or as a complementary element in a broader Organic strategy.

As Local SEO depends on different algorithmic signals to the “main” results, while there is overlap there is little risk of one “interfering” with the performance of the other if managed correctly, and instead you could end up with significantly improved performance as a result of focusing on both.

Each project will depend on your specific needs, but could follow:

  1. Map pack only – perfect for businesses with a physical presence looking to improve performance in the map packs across Google & Bing, providing insight into immediate opportunities as well as areas for growth within the listings.
  2. Localised search only – ideal for businesses without a physical presence, or those who are already comfortable with their map pack performance, providing insight into broader local query performance and where the key growth opportunities are for implementing on your website.
  3. Combination review – perfect for determining your current performance in local search and where the key opportunities are to scale in line with demand

Local Search reviews are scoped in line with your requirements as well as, if applicable, the number of map listings and / or locations requiring review.
